Applachian writer and long time friend, Gary Winkler, will be signing his new controversial book, Tortured: Lynndie England, Abu Graib and the Photographs that Shocked the World. He will do a reading at 4pm on Friday at our shop. Refreshments will be served.
We are so excited to host Gary and his new book which is receiving drawing world wide interest!  Certainly a movie will follow for our talented friend and writer. Saturday Gary will be signing books at our Anderson’s Corner Chili Cook Off Booth at the Romney Firehouse just a block from the shop! Stop by for some great chili and enjoy the live music.

Romney Sunflower Fest 2009 is this weekend in Romney. Friday, August 14th, promises to be entertaining with a Cumberland music group, The Night Owls, who play 60’s, 70’s & 80’s music. BBQ and homemade desserts start at the Bottling Works on Main Street in Romney at 5:30pm. The Night Owls will play from 6 to 9 pm with an auction of 2 foot and 4 foot gorgeous, unique wooden sunflowers painted and decorated by local artists and all to benefit designated local charities.

The Garden Walk winners will be announced on Friday evening and maps of the Garden Walk will be available. The Sunflower Hat Decorating Contest will be judged and Little Miss Sunflower will be chosen on Friday night as well.

Saturday festivities include the Romney Firehouse Chili Cook Off from 11am til 4 at the Romney Firehouse with live music all day by The Time Travelers and The Night Owls. Anderson’s Corner will have a booth at the Chili Cook Off and Gary Winkler will be signing books there!

Saturday also includes children’s games nearby the Firehouse and guided tours of the Garden Walk from 1pm til 4pm.  Maps for the Garden Walk will be available at the events at the Bottling Works on Friday evening and at the Chili Cook Off on Saturday.
